Lino For Prisoners: Workshop and Letter Writing

19.10. -

Join us for an afternoon of making art and international prisoner solidarity. During this 3-hour workshop you will make your own stamp using linocut and use it to decorate your letter to activists imprisoned in the Czech Republic.

Who are we writing to?

In March of this year, a fire destroyed a warehouse facility in Pardubice, Czechia. The owner of the warehouse, LPP holdings, reportedly planned to use the site for a collaboration with Elbit Systems, the largest supplier of land-based equipment and drones to the IDF.

Eleven people have been arrested in Czechia and neighbouring countries for an alleged connection with the fire.

Eight of them are currently held in pre-trial detention in Czechia, under harsh conditions. Due to the invocation of terrorism-related charges, they can be held for up to 4 years without a trial. Their lawyers have been denied access to any evidence against them.

At the same time, there is a growing climate of surveillance and intimidation in the Czech Republic, with other Pro-Palestinian activists having been subjected to police intimidation and harassment, their homes being raided and personal devices being confiscated.

What we will do

During the first part of the workshop you will learn how to make your own lino stamp- from coming up with your own motive, to carving and printing with it. We will then write letters to the imprisoned activists, using our newly made stamps to decorate them.

Practicalities

No prior experience with linocut is required. We will provide all the necessary materials, as well as some inspiration for writing to prisoners.
The workshop is donation-based. With your donations we will buy books that the prisoners have asked for and send them to them.

De Sering serves cheap vegan dinner. Feel free to grab a plate before or during the workshop and share the meal with us :)
